In TOW Ross and Rachel … You Know, we witness the beginnings of Ross and Rachel’s courtship. Their first date goes well, but Rachel gets a bit giggly when it comes time for the kissin’. She promises to make it up to them on their next date, but then Ross gets an emergency call from the museum (museums have emergencies?) and their plans are derailed.
Ross thinks on his feet, grabs a bear-skin rug and some goodies from the museum vending machine, and cobbles together a very memorable evening in the museum’s planetarium. He offers Rachel her choice of juice boxes: “Cran-Apple or Cran-Grape?” — and this week’s signature cocktails were born.
Cran-Apple Old Fashioned
2 oz rye whiskey
1 oz Cran-Apple juice
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz simple syrup
Tiny pinch ground cinnamon
1 whole clove, ground
1 whole allspice berry, ground
Orange peel (for garnish)
Combine all but the orange peel in a lowball glass and stir well to combine.
Top off with ice and garnish with the orange peel.
This cocktail gets better the longer it sits — it allows the spices to really integrate into the drink. If you can, we recommend making this ahead of time (sans ice, of course) and storing in the fridge until you’re ready to serve it.
This makes a great batch cocktail, too!
To curl the orange peel, wrap it around a straw or chopstick and press firmly. Slide it off and you’ve got yourself an orange curl!
2.5 oz light rum
1 oz key lime juice
1 oz Cran-Grape juice
Combine ingredients over ice in a martini shaker.
Shake what your mama gave ya.
Strain into a martini glass.
Garnish with large, plastic pink flamingos.
