In Season 3, Episode 3, TOW the Jam, we decided to put our own spin on the traditional bourbon bramble, which is typically made with bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and blackcurrant liqueur. How did we make it extra jammy? We substituted blackcurrant jam for the simple syrup!
The jam gives this cocktail a nice viscosity and an earthier flavor. The blackberry garnish is beautiful, too!
Elizabeth accidentally flubbed her execution of the recipe — she didn’t realize until it was all mixed up that the blackcurrant liqueur was supposed to be floated on top. She just mixed it all together! Oh well, that’s what would’ve happened anyway, right?
Heather ended up using what she had on hand to put her spin on things. She used bourbon, creme de mure, and blackberry jam.
Here’s Elizabeth’s take on the bourbon jamble!
1 1/2 ounces bourbon
3/4 ounce blackcurrant liqueur
1/2 ounce lemon juice
1 tsp blackcurrant jam
Blackberries, for garnish
Add the bourbon, blackcurrant liqueur, lemon juice, and blackcurrant jam, along with some ice, to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously to disperse the jammy goodness! Serve in an ice-filled lowball glass and garnish with blackberries.
